Multiannual Bertram ( Anacyclus pyrethrum )

The Perennial Bertram ( Anacyclus pyrethrum (L.) Link ) is a species of the genus of flowers ring or Bertram ( Anacyclus ) and thus the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Features

The Perennial Bertram is a short lived perennial herbaceous plant that is low-lying and thus achieved growth heights of 2-5 inches with a width of up to 40 centimeters. Perhaps the species forms a taproot. The leaves are arranged in rosettes, gray-green young, doubly pinnatisect, pressed against the ground and up to 10 inches long. The flower stem is decumbent and radial spread. The rand union ray flowers are white, her bottom is striped purple. The fruits are highly compressed.

The flowering period extends from May to August.

Occurrence

The Perennial Bertram comes in Southeast Spain, northern Morocco and northern Algeria ago on forest clearings and pastures at altitudes 400-3100 m.

Use

The Perennial Bertram is scattered used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. In Germany it was once used as a medicinal plant and spice liqueur. Hildegard of Bingen mentioned the revitalizing effect of the plant. It is in culture at least since 1930.

System

The species is rich in form, two varieties have been described:

  • Roman Bertram ( Anacyclus pyrethrum pyrethrum var ): The shell has a diameter of 13-22 millimeters.
  • Morocco - Bertram ( Anacyclus pyrethrum var depressus (Ball) Maire ): The shell has a diameter of 7 to 12 mm. This form is available only in Morocco before in the Atlas Mountains.

The well-known only in German culture Bertram ( Anacyclus officinarum Hayne ) was possibly a descendant of the Multiannual annuals Bertram.
