Anderl Molterer

Andreas " Anderl " Molterer (born 8 October 1931 in Kitzbühel, Tyrol) is a former Austrian alpine skier. In the 1950s he was able to celebrate over 50 victories in FIS races, winning several medals at the Olympics and World Championships and was nine times Austrian Champion.

Career

The qualified carpenter came in 1948 Kitzbühel Ski Club and in 1950 was admitted to the National team of the Austrian Ski Federation. In winter 1950/51 him his first podium arrive at important international races. A year later, he celebrated the first victory in the combination of Zermatt. Three other season successes reach him in the departure of the Gornergrat derbies and the giant slalom in Arosa and Zürs.

The Olympia 1955/56 season began with victory in Molterer Lauberhorn Slalom. At the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo, he won the silver medal in the giant slalom and the bronze medal in the downhill, slalom, he failed. But He was always in the shadow of dominant Toni Sailer, who won all alpine competitions at the games. In the rest of the season Molterer celebrated a triple success in slalom, downhill and combined at the Arlberg - Kandahar race, won the downhill of Zermatt, the giant slalom in Arosa and Zürs and some other competitions.

The superiority Sailers, especially on the descents was also given in the season 1956/57. Molterer therefore had to make do with three slalom victories. After the games Molterer ended his career in the amateurs and switched to the pros, where he celebrated some more success. After that, he worked successfully in the International Professional Ski Racing Association ( IPSRA ) in the United States where he was successful as a ski instructor for celebrities and model for ski equipment. In the summer of 1966, he founded with Pepi Gramshammer and Erich Sailer the Red Lodge International Summer Ski Racing Camp at Red Lodge (Montana). Here in Alpine skiing American teenagers are taught to this day. In 1970 he opened Molterer Sports in Aspen (Colorado), which he led for 17 years.
