Anders Bergcrantz

Unlike Bergcrantz ( born December 5, 1961 in Malmö) is a Swedish jazz trumpeter.

Life and work

Bergcrantz grew up in a musical family and played trumpet since 1976: his father Sven Bergcrantz ( 1931-1998 ), was a jazz pianist; his older brothers Thomas and Hakan played drums and tenor saxophone. At first he was taught by Tim Hagans and then on the music school of his native town. 1980 and 1981 he studied at the Berklee College of Music, and then to 1983 to continue his education at the Conservatory of Malmö. Already at this time he played strengthened nationally, about a quintet of his father (along with the older brothers ). In 1986 he founded his own band with whom he also tours abroad; He also played with Michael Brecker and the Tolvan band with whom he also appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival. As early as 1990 he had a two-week stint at Ronnie Scott's; In 2000 he was guest soloist in New York's Carnegie Hall. During these years he also toured with Cæcilie Norby in Japan as well as Billy Harper in Scandinavia and has performed with Benny Golson on in Italy. On the Music Festival Nordic sound in Greifswald he led a concert of his wife, the composer and singer Anna -Lena Laurin on.

Furthermore, he has performed with musicians such as Richie Beirach, Arne Domnerus, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Konitz, McCoy Tyner and Carla Bley and was on albums by, among other things Lars Danielsson involved, Dave Liebman, Lennart Aberg, Cæcilie Norby, Amanda Sedgwick and Tolvan Big Band.

Prizes and awards

For his album In This Together 1995 he received the Gyllene Skivan; He also was nominated for the Nordic Culture Prize. In 2009 he was honored as " contemporary jazz star " with the Django d' Or ( Sweden).
