Andorra (Teruel)

Andorra is a municipality in the province of Teruel in the Autonomous Region of Aragón in Spain. It is located in the comarca of Andorra -Sierra de Arcos and had 8278 inhabitants on 1 January 2013. So she stood by the inhabitants in the province ranked third ( behind Teruel and Alcaniz ).

History

Near the town is now known under the name El Poblado de Cabo Iberian settlement was from the 5th century BC. Andorra is first documented in 1149 called on the occasion of its conquest by Ramón Berenguer IV of Barcelona from the Moors. Andorra was originally a livestock center of the 20 km northern Albalate del Arzobispo and is as such a ( unspecified to be identified ) Saint Macarius (San Macario ) returned. For assistance in the conquest of Valencia Andorra received by King James I ( Aragón ) the title Muy Noble Villa.

Economy

While in the past the agriculture predominated ( crops and livestock ), won in 1950 the mining of brown coal ( lignite ) increasing importance, which was conducted in 1980 in mining. In Andorra thereupon arose the Teruel power plant, a thermal power plant with 1050 megawatts of power and a 343 m high chimney.
