André Rouvoet

André Rouvoet ( born January 4, 1962 in Hilversum ) is a Dutch politician of the ChristianUnion, the (RPF ) formerly belonged to the Reformation Politieke Federatie. From February 22 2007 to October 14, 2010, he was Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

Training

Rouvet attended from 1974 to 1980 the Comenius College in Hilversum and studied from 1981 to 1986 law and political philosophy at the Free University of Amsterdam.

Political career

First Rouvoet came on 17 May 1994 for the RPF, which he joined in 1985 into Parliament. Since 13 May 2001 to 17 May 2011 ( with an interruption from 2007 to 2010 ) he was, after the merger of RPF with the Gereformeerd Politiek Verbond (GPV ) for ChristianUnion, for those in the Second Chamber.

Rouvoet was on 12 November 2002 to 22 February 2007 and again from 10 June 2010 until April 28, 2011 Leader of the ChristianUnion and in the elections of 2003 and 2006, the top candidate of the party. In 2004 he was chosen by the Dutch Parliamentary Press Association for Politician of the Year. With the formation of the CDA / PvdA / CU coalition government, in which the ChristianUnion first time participated in the government, he was on 22 February 2007 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Family and Youth of the Netherlands. His tenure ended on 14 October 2010. In April 2011, he announced his retirement from politics on.

Private

Rouvoet is a member of the Christian Reformed Church. He is married to Liesbeth, since July 1986. The couple has a son and four daughters Arjen Rianna, Marieke, Lydia and Emma and lives in Woerden.
