André Roy

André Roy ( born February 8, 1975 in Port Chester, New York) is an American Eishockeyspieler, the last at the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League was under contract. Currently, he is a so-called Unrestricted Free Agent.

Career

André Roy began his career as a hockey player in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he played from 1993 to 1995 for the Beauport Harfangs, Chicoutimi Drummondville Voltigeurs and Sagueneens. He was elected during the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 by the Boston Bruins as a total of 151 players in the sixth round.

In his three years between 1995 and 1998 with the Bruins he came up with 13 appearances in the National Hockey League. He also played for the farm team of the Bruins, the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League. In the 1997/98 season Roy also played in 27 games for the Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League. The following season 1998/99, the Americans spent in the International Hockey League with the Fort Wayne Komets.

On 28 April 1999 Roy was taken as a free agent by the Ottawa Senators under contract. After three years, the attacker was issued on 15 March 2002 together with a sixth- round option for the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in exchange for Juha Ylönen at the Tampa Bay Lightning. With Tampa Roy won the 2004 Stanley Cup. Although he spent much of the regular season as a reservist, Roy played in 21 playoff games.

On August 4, 2005 Roy received as a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. On December 2, 2006 Roy was arrested for exceeding the salary cap by the Penguins out of the NHL squad, so that he then returned to his former club, the Tampa Bay Lightning. On 21 July 2008 Roy signed a contract with the Calgary Flames, but he left after one year.
