André Viger

André Viger, OC, CQ ( born September 27, 1952 in Windsor, Ontario, † 1 October 2006) was a Canadian racing wheelchairs.

Viger grew up in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on. On 3 June 1973 he was a paraplegic in a traffic accident. After various rehabilitation measures he took part in 1979 for the first time in a wheelchair in a marathon. In the following years he won numerous titles. So he won the Boston Marathon wheelchair rating in the years 1984, 1986 and 1987, and also the Oita Marathon he won four times in a row for themselves. In the 1990 World Cup he scored gold at 5,000 m.

Between 1984 and 1996 he participated in all Paralympic Games and this won two gold, two silver and one bronze medal. A gold medal he took thereof in Barcelona in 1992 in the discipline in the 10,000 meters.

After the Paralympic Games in Barcelona Viger ended his athletic career and opened in Montreal Maison Andre Viger, a company specializing in wheelchairs business. In the 1980s, he had owned a number of jewelers, but they sold after the divorce from his wife. In October 2006, he died as a result of cancer.
