Andrea Locatelli

Andrea Locatelli, also Lucatelli, ( born December 19, 1695 in Rome, † February 19, 1741 ) was an Italian landscape painter of the Baroque.

Life

Locatelli was the son of the painter Giovanni Francesco Locatelli ( 1660-1741 ). He studied with Monsù Alto ( a painter of coastal landscapes), after whose death in Fergioni Bernardino ( 1674 to 1738) and Biagio Puccini. In the latter, he studied mainly painting the human body. His landscapes with mythological and antique motifs reminiscent of Claude Lorrain, but also to Jan Frans van Bloemen ( Orrizonte ) and Salvator Rosa. In 1715 he was involved in the decoration of the Palazzo Ruspoli in Rome ( with maritime scenes, where he painted only the characters and you have already paid high) and for Victor Amadeus II of Savoy from 1723 to 1725 he painted two pictures for the Rivoli Castle in Turin (commissioned by Filippo Juvarra ). 1735, he painted two Sopraporte for King Philip V (Spain ), La Granja (also by Juvara mediated) and 1738 images for two doors in the Palazzo Corsini.

He influenced the marine painter Claude -Joseph Vernet.
