Andreas Staier

Andreas Staier (* September 13, 1955 in Göttingen ) is a German harpsichordist and pianist.

Life

Staier studied at the Academy of Music in Hannover piano (with Kurt Bauer and Erika Haase ) and harpsichord (with Lajos Rovatkay ) and in Amsterdam. From 1983 to 1986 he was harpsichordist of the ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln. Since 1986, he has performed as a soloist on the fortepiano, but also as an accompanist and together with the ensemble Les Adieux. From 1987 to 1996 he was professor of harpsichord at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.

He gives regular concerts as a soloist with Concerto Köln, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and the Orchestre des Champs- Élysées in Paris. Staier one of the outstanding experts pianoforte of the present generation.

Andreas Staier has made ​​numerous recordings, of which many have been awarded international prizes. His career was honored in 2002 with the Honorary Diploma of the price of the German Record Critics. In 2008 he was honored by the State of Lower Saxony with the Praetorius Music Prize.
