Andrés Martínez Trueba

Andrés Martínez Trueba (* 1884 in Montevideo, † 1959 ) was a Uruguayan politician of the Partido Colorado. From 1 March 1951 to 1 March 1952, he was President of Uruguay. After that he was from 1 March 1952 to 1 March 1955, the first chairman of the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno (National Council).

Andrés Martínez Trueba was born the son of a railway worker in Montevideo Peñarol district. He studied chemistry at the University of the Republic.

Trueba was before his presidency from 1922 to 1925 deputy, senator from 1926 and later mayor of Montevideo.

In the presidential and parliamentary elections of 1950, Andrés Martínez Trueba was able to prevail and thus became the 26th constitutional President of Uruguay. 1952 was a confirmed by referendum constitutional amendment abolished the presidency and ( Consejo Nacional de Gobierno the ) transfer the governance of a nine-member National Council, which Trueba was the first chairman of the Council.

In the years 1932 and 1943-1946 Martínez Trueba was President of Banco Hipotecario del Uruguay.
