Uruguayan general election, 1950

The presidential and parliamentary elections in Uruguay in 1950 found on Sunday, 26 November 1950.

From the simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections was the Partido Colorado, which included two Sublemas, emerged as the winner. Andrés Martínez Trueba ( Lista 15) of the Colorado Party was elected president. In the elections, the electoral system was aligned so-called Lema system of relative majority, both the President and the deputies and senators were elected under a proportional representation for a term of four years.

The allocation of seats for the House of Representatives was as follows:

  • Partido Colorado: 53.5 % ( the two strongest Sublema: Batllismo: 41.4 %; Libertad y Justicia: 12.1%)
  • Partido Nacional: 31.3 %
  • Other parties: 15.2%

The distribution of seats in the Cámara de Senadores:

  • Partido Colorado: 56.7%
  • Partido Nacional: 33.3 %
  • Other parties: Partido Nacional Independiente 6.7%
