Uruguayan general election, 1942

The presidential and parliamentary elections in Uruguay in 1942 found on Sunday, 29 November 1942.

From the simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections was the Partido Colorado, which included five Sublemas, emerged as the winner. Juan José de Amézaga of the Partido Colorado has been elected president. He took office on March 1, 1943. In the elections, the electoral system was aligned so-called Lema system of relative majority, both the President and the deputies and senators were elected under a proportional representation for a term of four years.

The allocation of seats for the House of Representatives was as follows:

  • Partido Colorado: 58.6 % ( the two strongest Sublema: Batllismo: 34.3%; Libertad y Justicia: 14.1% )
  • Partido Nacional: 23.2%
  • Other parties: 18.2%

The distribution of seats in the Cámara de Senadores:

  • Partido Colorado: 63.2 %
  • Partido Nacional: 23.4%
  • Other parties: Partido Nacional Independiente 10%
  • Other: 3.4%
