Andrés Wood

Andrés Wood Montt (born 1965 in Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean film director and screenwriter.

After studying economics at the Universidad de Chile, he went to New York. There he attended a film course and then went to Chile to release the film Historias del Fútbol there. The film earned him an award as best new director at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and was also successful at the box office.

Machuca (2004) carries autobiographical. This film increased its reputation yet, received a Goya Award nomination, and was the Chilean contender for an Oscar nomination for " Best Foreign Language Film ".

After his also award- winning drama La buena vida ( 2008) on the fates of several people in his hometown of Santiago de Chile, he put 2011 Violeta Parra, a biopic about the eponymous Chilean musician and artist ( 1917-1967 ) before, in the Francisca Gavilán held the title role. The film was awarded a prize, among others at the Sundance Film Festival and was Chile's candidate in the foreign Oscar in 2011, but did not get shortlisted.
