Andrew Flintoff

Andrew Flintoff, MBE ( born December 6, 1977 in Preston, Lancashire ) is an English cricketer.

Career

Flintoff was first appointed to the England team in 1998. He lacked then, however, the constancy. In addition, his fitness was not sufficient, so he was not a regular member of the national team. Rather, it remained isolated inserts.

Not until 2003 that Flintoff had developed to an overall much improved player and was used regularly. The next year he was one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

In 2005, he was instrumental in the first match victory in the Ashes series after 18 unsuccessful years. In this year he also became the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Sportsman of the Year in the UK, selected.

In 67 Test matches he scored five times, more than 100 runs as a hitter, and he scored 197 enemy wickets. In 127 one- day internationals (ODI ), he scored three times more than 100 runs and 146 wickets.

Flintoff is the third best English bowler in one- day internationals and Test matches in the zwölftbeste. He is also ninth in terms of the number of runs in ODIs. Of 1998, Flintoff 34 runs in an over of Surrey bowler Alex Tudor. Flintoff holds the British record for the most " sixes " (ie, the ball is hit directly from the field ) in Test matches.

Flintoff is relatively often violated. He has been operated on four times at the ankle. Therefore, he fell among other things, a large part of the seasons 2007 and 2008, and the intervening tour. He also has difficulty to abide by the team rules again and again. At the Cricket World Cup 2007, he was internally disabled after repeated earlier warnings for a game after he was drunk fallen out of a pedal boat.

In September 2010, he ended his cricket career and started as a boxer. His first fight he won on points against Richard Dawson.

Private life

Flintoff is since 2005 married to Rachel Wools. The couple has three children.

His nickname is Freddy because of the similarity of his last name with the cartoon character Fred Flintstone (German: Fred Flintstone ).
