Andrew Z. McCarty

Andrew Zimmerman McCarty (* July 14, 1808 in Rhinebeck, New York, † April 23, 1879 in Pulaski, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Andrew Zimmerman McCarty was born about four years before the outbreak of the British - American War in Dutchess County. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law in 1831 he began to practice in Pulaski. Between 1840 and 1843 he was County Clerk in Oswego County. He was 1846 and 1847 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the opposition party.

In the congressional elections of 1854 for the 34th Congress McCarty was in the 22nd electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Henry C. Goodwin on March 4, 1855. He retired after March 3, 1857 from the Congress.

After his conference time he went to Pulaski back to his work as a lawyer after. Between 1875 and 1879 he worked as Registrar of Bankruptcy. He died on 23 April 1879 in Pulaski and was then buried in the town cemetery.
