AN/FPS-117

The RRP 117 (Remote Radar Post) is a D -band phased array radar system of air defense. Operational users in Germany is the operational command of the Air Force service. Next radars of the Air Force are Medium Power Radar (HADR radar), GM 406F and RAT 31DL.

System

The RRP 117 consists of an air surveillance radar in semiconductor technology ( about 300 power modules in an antenna ), a secondary radar and subsystems for simulation. The RRP 117 provides 3D target information in real time and correlated with secondary surveillance radar data over the entire detection space of around 450 km. The RRP 117 works by vertical beam scanning with a continuously with 6/min rotating planar phased array antenna, and is a modified version of the 1983 requirements for German imported U.S. AN/FPS-117 Long Range Solid State radar. This guy was not installed until circa 2005 at Berlin -Tempelhof airport as so-called " Berlin- radar ".

The U.S. AN/FPS-117 is available in different versions on the arms market available, including AN/TPS-117 the updated version. A total of around 127 pieces (August 2006) were exported to the following countries: Australia (since 1997 ), Belgium, Brazil ( since 2009 TPS - B34 ), Denmark ( since 2007), Estonia ( since 2003), Iceland, Italy, Jordan, Canada, Croatia, Kuwait ( 1993 ), Latvia ( since 2003), Pakistan, Romania (since 1998 ), Saudi Arabia ( 17 pieces ), Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey and Hungary.

Deployment in Germany

In Germany, since 1998, eight radars of the type RRP 117 in operation. They are under the operational command of the Air Force service ( EinsFüDstLw ):

The antenna systems are under radomes to minimize weathering.
