Angelo Berardi

Angelo Berardi (* 1636 in Sant'Agata Feltria, Pesaro, † April 9, 1694 in Rome) was an Italian composer, violinist and music theorist.

The Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Forli, Giovanni Vincenzo Sarti (1600-1655) was one of the first teachers Berardi. From 1662 Berardi was Kapellmeister in Montefiascone, still in this position, he received further instruction by Marco Scacchi. In 1668 he became Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Viterbo. Ordained priest he held most likely 1672/1673 in Rome. From 1673 he served as conductor and organist at the cathedral of Tivoli and from 1679 to 1683 in the same position in Spoleto.

He published in 1687 in Bologna his treatise, " Documenti armonici ", which was also in Bach's music discount. From 1693 he was a canon of Santa Maria in Trastevere and Kapellmeister at in Rome. Berardi was considered one of the most important Italian music theorist of the 17th century.
