Angelo Maria Rivato

Angelo Maria Rivato SJ ( born December 3, 1924 in San Giovanni Ilarione; † August 20, 2011 in Val d' Illasi ) was an Italian religious clergyman, missionary and Roman Catholic Bishop of Ponta de Pedras.

Life

Angelo Maria Rivato studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of Vincenza was incardinated by his priestly ordination on 29 June 1951 in the Diocese of Vicenza. He joined in 1951 the Congregation of the Jesuits and was vicar and Pfarrkooperator in Vincenza. In 1960 he was a missionary in Belém, Brazil; he is involved in the Focolare Movement. In 1964 he became vicar general of the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 29 April 1965 the first prelate of the Diocese of Ponta de Pedras on Marajó Island at the mouth of the Amazon and on June 13, 1967 Titular Bishop of Germania in Numidia. The Apostolic Nuncio to Brazil, Sebastiano Baggio, donated to it on 6 August of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Alberto Ramos Gaudêncio, Archbishop of Belém do Pará, and José Maritano PIME, Prelate of Macapa. His episcopal motto was Ubi Caritas Deus Ibi ( "Where there is love, there is God "). He was a Council Father of the fourth and final session of the Second Vatican Council from 14 September to 8 December 1965.

On May 26, 1978, he renounced under the new guidelines of the Roman Curia on his Titularbischofssitz. Pope John Paul II appointed him on October 16, 1979 Bishop of Ponta de Pedras.

On 16 January 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related. He lived since 2009 in the Italian Gallarate and died of a stroke.
