Angelo Moratti

Angelo Moratti ( born November 5, 1909 in Somma Lombardo, † August 12, 1981 in Viareggio ) was an Italian entrepreneur and football official.

Biography

Moratti tried already as a teenager as an entrepreneur and worked in various industries. After he had made in the 1930s to trade in oil foot, it developed in the years to become one of the most important players in the energy sector in Italy. As the owner of coal mines, oil refineries and power plants, he built up a fortune. In 1962 he founded from his individual companies the energy group Saras, which was in course of time become one of the largest companies in Italy. During the energy crisis of the early 1970s, he expanded his business in the media industry and was involved in the Corriere della Sera, and the Rizzoli publishing house.

From the 1950s Moratti supported his favorite club Inter Milan, whose fortunes he served as President from 1955. He initiated one of the most successful periods in their history, topped by three italienenischen championships, twice the gain of each of the European Champions' Cup and the World Cup. He was succeeded by Ivanoe Fraizzoli 1968. In his honor, was renamed in November 2007 before the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, a place that subsequently traded as Piazzale Angelo Moratti. The training center of the club also called Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti.
