Angra is a power metal band from Brazil.

History

Angra ( " Goddess of Fire " in Brazilian mythology) was founded in 1991 by Andre Matos and Rafael Bittencourt. Luis Mariutti, Kiko Loureiro and Marco Antunes joined them.

A few weeks later they recorded the demo Reaching Horizons. When in 1993 the debut album Angels Cry appeared, Marco Antunes had already left the band. On this record, therefore, Alex Holzwarth ( Sieges Even, Rhapsody of Fire) plays the drums as a session musician. Shortly after the shots came Ricardo Confessori as the new drummer so. In this line, the two albums Holy Land and Fireworks appeared.

In 2000, Andre, Luis and Ricardo left due to differences with the management of the band and founded together with Luis ' brother Hugo, a new group called Shaman. They were replaced by Eduardo Falaschi, Felipe Andreoli and Aquiles Priester.

2001 the band released another album, Rebirth, from the subsequent tour, a double live album was published in 2002. Was published in 2004, the concept album Temple Of Shadows, which tells the story of a crusader. In this Hansi Kürsch ( Blind Guardian ) and Kai Hansen ( Gamma Ray ) are represented as guest musicians, among others. Their album Aurora Consurgens was published in 2006 and is inspired by the same alchemical treatise from the 15th century, which often wrongly attributed to Thomas Aquinas.

Since 2013 Fabio Lione is with the band on the road until a new singer is found.
