Antarctic Zhongshan Station

The Zhongshan Station (Chinese中国 南极 中山 站/中国 南极 中山 站, Pinyin Zhōngguó Nanji Zhongshan Zhan, Chinese Antarctic Zhongshan Station ', Sun Yat -Sen station) is the second Chinese polar research station in Antarctica. It was opened on 26 February 1989, is operated by the Polar Research Institute of China ( PRIC ).

The Zhongshan Station is located in the territory of the Larsemann mountains on the Prydz Bay in East Antarctica, only 800 meters from the Russian Progress II Station and 2 km from the Australian- Romanian station Law Racoviţă.

The logistical task of supplying the Zhongshan Station accepts the Chinese ice-breaking research vessel Xuelong ( "Snow Dragon" ) with its annual rides.

The station is home to about 60 people in the summer, during the winter time, there are about 25 researchers and technicians.
