Anthony Williams (musician)

Anthony " Tony" Williams ( * June 24, 1931 in Port of Spain, Trinidad ) is an inventor, pioneer and musician of the Steel Pan.

Life

Williams was born in General Hospital the light of day and grew up on the Nepal Street in the district of St. James. It belongs next to Winston " Spree " Simon, Neville Jules and Elliot Mannette to the big developers of Steel Pan. Aged 20, he was a member of the Trinidad All Steel Percussion Orchestra TASPO which visited England.

In 1953 Tony Williams before a Soprano Pan, whose tone arrangement corresponded to the circle of fifths. Because this tone arrangement looked like a spider web, Williams baptized his instrument Spider Web Pan. Since then, such masses arranged and constructed soprano steel pan is the only musical instrument that converts the up to this point theoretical concept of the circle of fifths faithfully into practice. This invention Williams' is accepted worldwide and there are now only sporadically Steel Pan Bauer, customize the different Tonanordnungen.

Tony Williams was a band leader and arranger Pantuner the Pan Am North Stars and won with this group in 1962 and 1963, the National Steelband Panorama competition.

1992 Tony Williams was the Chaconia Medal awarded in gold. He also received in 2008 in recognition of his achievements by President George Maxwell Richards to the highest order of Trinidad Order of the Republic awarded.
