Antoine Blanc

Anthony Blanc ( born October 11, 1792 in Sury -le- Comtal, Loire, France, † June 20, 1860 in New Orleans, USA) was Archbishop of New Orleans.

Life

Anthony Blanc received on 22 July 1816, the sacrament of Holy Orders. In 1817 he arrived in Annapolis, Maryland. Blanc worked as a missionary in Louisiana in the following years. In 1831 he became vicar general of the diocese of New Orleans.

On June 19, 1835, he was named Pope Gregory XVI. Bishop of New Orleans. The Bishop of Saint Louis, Joseph Rosati CM, donated to him on 22 November of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Mobile, Michael Portier, and the Bishop of Cincinnati, John Baptist Purcell.

On July 19, 1850, he was named by Pope Pius IX. Archbishop of New Orleans.
