Anton Hickel

Karl Anton Hickel (* 1745 in Bohemian Leipa, † October 30, 1798 in Hamburg ) was a German - Bohemian painter.

Life

Hickel was born in Český Leipa and studied at the Academy in Vienna. From 1779 the artist went on study tours throughout Europe. In Munich, he stayed on longer time and portrayed the Elector Carl Theodor. He also traveled to southern Germany and Switzerland, then to Mannheim and Mainz. He was court painter to Emperor Joseph II. , 1786, he also painted his sister Marie Antoinette. He died in Hamburg.

Works from the hand of Anton Hickel are, inter alia, in the Historical Museum in Bern, in Oberhofen Castle in Oberhofen and Jegenstorf Castle ( both locks in the canton of Bern ).
