Anton Maria Salvini

Antonio Maria Salvini ( Anton Maria Salvini or Salvinius Anthony Mary, born January 12, 1653 Florence, † 16 May or May 17, 1729 ) was an Italian philologist.

Salvini was the son of Andrea Salvini and his wife Eleonora. He studied at Pisa and was from 1673-1725 professor of Ancient Greek language in Florence. He is said to have ruled at least eight languages ​​fluently. He translated and annotated ancient dramas, operas and comedies. He also wrote a dictionary of the Tuscan dialect and wrote poems.

Salvini was a member of the Accademia della Crusca, Accademia Fiorentina and the Accademia degli Apatisti. 1716 he was at the suggestion of Robert Balle Member of the Royal Society in London, which at that time was headed by Sir Isaac Newton.
