Antonio Prieto (actor)

Juan Antonio Espinoza Prieto ( born May 26, 1927 in Iquique, † July 14, 2011 in Santiago de Chile) was a Chilean actor and bolero singer. Its versatility and charisma made ​​him a popular singer of his time together with his compatriot Lucho Gatica.

Life

Prieto began his career as a participant in the music competition La Feria de los deseos, the Raúl Matas initiated at Radio Minería. With ballads like El Reloj, Chuquicamata and Huija ( by his brother Joaquín Prieto ), he became known in the 1960s and 1970s as a singer. His most famous piece was the waltz La Novia, which was published in 1961 and held for a year in the Spanish charts. In 1964 he took part with a song by Gino Paoli at the Festival de la Canción de San Remo. Overall Prieto interpreted more than one thousand songs and released several albums of his own.

Antonio Prieto suffered from Alzheimer's disease and died in a hospital in Santiago de Chile on a cardiac arrest at the age of 84 years.
