Gino Paoli

Gino Paoli ( born September 23, 1934 in Monfalcone ) is an Italian singer and songwriter.

Life

Born in Monfalcone, he moved a few months after his birth to Genoa. His passion for music has Paoli was from his mother, the pianist. In Genoa, he teamed up with other musicians such as Luigi Tenco and Fabrizio de Andre. This group of songwriters who were counted in the so-called Scuola di Genova, ushered in the fashion of the Italian cantautori songs and can thus be referred to as a pioneer of music production in Italy. Later Paoli has worked with numerous Italian musicians. Gino Paoli also considered a pioneer of Lucio Dalla, whom he met in 1964 and recorded in his group, but also by Francesco De Gregori and Francesco Guccini. One of Paoli's internationally best-known songs was Sapore di sale (1963 ), which he recorded with the orchestra of Ennio Morricone.

As a singer Paoli took a total of five times at the San Remo festival in part, in 1961 with Un uomo vivo cantata ( in duet with Tony Dallara ), 1964 with Ieri ho mia madre incontrato ( in duo with Antonio Prieto ), 1966 La carta vincente ( in a duo with Ricardo ), 1989 with Questa volta no and again in 2002 with the song Un altro amore, with whom he reached number three.

In his career, Paoli wrote many songs that were sung by other artists. In the early days of his career, especially Mina and Ornella Vanoni, and later by many other like Claudio Villa, Luigi Tenco, Gianni Morandi, Patty Pravo, Franco Battiato, or even Marco Masini. In 1986, he co-wrote with Zucchero, the two songs Come il sole all'improvviso and Con le mani.

Gino Paoli in 1987 stood as a candidate of the Communist Party of Italy for election to the Chamber of Deputies and was thereby elected to parliament. After the re-election is not reached in the next legislative session, Paoli moved again in 1992 retired from politics.

Paoli is married. From his first marriage he has a son and out of a relationship with actress Stefania Sandrelli a daughter, Amanda Sandrelli. He has from his second marriage two sons more.

Awards and prizes

  • In 2002, he reached at the festival in San Remo with the song Un altro amore third place.
  • 1974 Gino Paoli was honored as songwriter with the Tenco Prize.
