Antonov An-140

The Antonov An-140 is a Ukrainian short haul passenger aircraft in high-wing design. It has a retractable landing gear. It is driven by two turboprop engines. The machine has an APU and good performance at high or very hot airports ( 45 ° C, 1700 m). Off and landing on unpaved runways is possible. It also has an air-conditioned pressurized cabin. The machine is designed to replace the Antonov An-24 and its variants. Despite outward similarities, the machine has been completely redeveloped.

History

The development of the type began in 1993. September 17, 1997, the first flight took place. The flight tests of two prototypes lasted until January 2000. Meanwhile, had to be carried out minor changes to the tail.

The first production aircraft flew on 11 October 1999. Type Certificate was issued on 25 April 2000. With the Iranian HESA plants in Isfahan / Iran signed a license agreement for the construction of 80 machines was closed. The first Iranian aircraft flew on 7 February 2001, she was made ​​of prefabricated parts.

The first use in scheduled service took place in March 2002 in Odessa Airlines.

A variant is the An-140 -100 increased wingspan.
