Apavatn

The Apavatn is a lake in the south of Iceland, east of Þingvallavatn. The lake, which is located in the municipality of Grímsnes above Grafningur and Bláskógabyggð, is known for its abundance of fish.

Geography

The area of ​​the Apavatn is 13.6 km ². It lies just south of the smaller Laugarvatn, with which it is connected across the river holaa, on Laugardalur. The only outlet of Apavatn, Háguos, resulting in the Brúará, the lake flows east to the south. Southeast of the lake there is the mountain Mossfell.

History

A legend says that Sighvatur Þórðarson, a poet in the Middle Ages in the 11th century, its sealing disclosure have obtained in that he ate fish from the lake. Another tells of murderous conflicts that should have taken place between the farmers of the two lakeside hamlet, Efra and Neðra - Apavatn in the 13th century.
