Apollo is installed by Alcatel in 2003 in the Atlantic submarine cable for data exchange between Europe and North America. Owned by the British telecommunications company Cable & Wireless, operator is Apollo Submarine Cable System Ltd.. , London.
The length of the fiber optic cable is 12,315 km. The system multiplexing (DWDM ) is composed of two cables ( north and south) and is designed for a throughput of up to 3.2 terabits per second. The connection is mainly used for data transmission on the Internet.
