Ar-Raqqah Governorate

Ar - Raqqa (Arabic الرقة ) is a province in northern Syria with an area of ​​19,616 km ² and around 760,000 inhabitants ( 2006).

Al-Raqqa is bordered on the north by Turkey, to the west by the province of Aleppo, on the east by the al-Hasakah Governorate and to the south by the province of Deir ez- Zor.

Capital and largest city is the city of al-Raqqa. Other cities are at- Tawra and Tell Abyad.

The agriculture consists mainly of cotton cultivation along the Euphrates. The population is predominantly made ​​up of Arabs together, much of which are Bedouins. In the north of the province along the border with Turkey and Kurds live in their villages.
