Latakia Governorate

Latakia (Arabic اللاذقية, DMG Muhafazat al - Lāḏikiyya, in dialect Muḥāfaẓit il - laz Iyye ʾ ) is a Syrian province with the same capital city of Latakia. It has an area of ​​2297 km ² and an estimated population of 1.17 million inhabitants ( 2005). The population consists of Arabs and Syrians, who are one half Christian and Muslim faith. Sunnis form unlike in other parts of the country, only a small minority religion. The province is located in the west of the country on the border with Turkey and the Mediterranean. Latakia is the main trading port of Syria. In recent years, the city developed into a gorgeous seaside resort with upmarket hotel and very beautiful and clean beaches.
