Arbujad

Arbujad ( German about shamans ', ' Summoner ' or ' soothsayer ') was the late 1930s, the collective name for a loose group of eight Estonian writers who have shaped a new direction of Estonian poetry before the Second World War.

The literary group belonged to the younger Estonian writer Betti Alver, Bernard Kangro, Uku Masing, Kersti Merilaas, Mart Raud, August Sang, Heiti Talvik and Paul Viiding. Most of them came from the student association Veljesto that was active at the University of Tartu. All were born in 1904-1914.

The name comes from the title of the Arbujad 1938 published poem anthology of Tartu English studies and literary scholar Ants Oras ( 1900-1982 ) Arbujad. Valimik uusimat eesti lüürikat ( Schamanen. A selection of the latest Estonian poetry). Influential also became the epilogue Oras ' to his anthology, which established the program of the group only offered her as a new generation of poets.
