Arcata is a city in Humboldt County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 17 231 inhabitants ( 2010). The metropolitan area has a size of 28.6 km ².

The first settlement in the area was in 1850 with the name Uniontown instead. In August 1989, reached the voters of Arcata, argued that the city was recognized as nuclear-weapon- free zone and banned all activities of the nuclear weapons production in the urban area.
