Today, the airport is on the one hand commercially, on the other hand used for private air travel. The Airlines Horizon Air and United Airlines offer here a regular service.

Facilities

The airport Arcata has an area of about 3 km2 and there are two start and runways are available:

  • Runway 1/19: 1372 x 45 m pad, Asphalt
  • Runway 14/32: 1829 x 46 m Surface: asphalt

As the airport is located on the California Pacific coast, it falls under the jurisdiction of the California Coastal Commission. Major changes, such as a change of region or of the fence must be approved by the Commission.

The final approach to runway 32 via the busy Central Avenue. The beacon of runway led initially to a dangerous driving by glare. This was particularly evident in bad weather, was when the brightness of the lights still further increased and then reflected by water on the roadway. The office of the FAA for research on aviation and airport equipment (Office of Aviation Research, Airport Technology Research and Development Branch) came to the rescue by attaching panels on the firing, thereby preventing the roadway was lit, but the firing continued for approaching aircraft served its purpose.
