Archduchess Eleanor of Austria

Eleanor of Austria ( born November 2, 1534 Vienna, † August 5, 1594 in Mantua ) was a Habsburg and by marriage Duchess of Mantua.

Biography

Eleanor was the eighth child and sixth daughter of the later to become (since 1558 ) Emperor Ferdinand I and his wife Anna of Bohemia and Hungary. 1536 was portrayed by Austrian court painter Jacob Seisenegger than two year old girl. This painting is now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.

Eleanor survived her husband by seven years and died in 1594 at the age of 59 years. She was buried in the crypt in the cathedral Gonzaga - San Pietro to Mantua.
