Archduchess Maria Josepha of Austria
Archduchess Maria Josepha Johanna Antonia Gabriela Anna of Austria (* March 19, 1751 in Vienna, † October 15, 1767 ibid ) was a daughter of the Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Franz Stephan.
Life
She was raised along with her older sister Johanna Gabriela. Both archduchesses performed well. Johanna Gabriela died on December 23, 1762 of smallpox. Maria Josepha was crying all night long to her sister. A few years later, Francis Stephen died on August 18, 1765 in Innsbruck. Maria Josepha held at this time, along with their younger siblings, in Vienna.
She soon became engaged to Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies. Maria Theresa wrote about this political connection: "I consider the poor Josepha as a victim of politics. If they only incidentally met their obligations to God and her husband, and ensures their salvation, then I would be satisfied even if they would be unhappy. "
Her aunt Anna Charlotte of Lorraine caused the dowry. Beginning in October 1767 Maria Josepha was a decorated with diamonds portrait of her fiance. But she did not want to marry him. Even the prospect of becoming Queen of Naples and Sicily later, could not cheer her gloom. For the 15th October, the wedding by proxy in Vienna Augustinian church was provided.
Maria Josepha became ill on October 4, after a visit to the Imperial Crypt of smallpox and died on October 15. Even on her deathbed she consoled her mother that she must she left anyway and so now went to Heaven, where they would be much better off. Maria Josepha is like her sister Johanna Gabriela and 10 other siblings buried in the Imperial Crypt in Vienna.
Maria Carolina, the next younger sister, Ferdinand I married in April in 1768.
