Archon of Pella

Archon (Greek Αρχων; † 321 BC ), son of Clinias and Synesis from Pella, was a soldier and governor of Alexander the Great.

In the Asia campaign he is mentioned in the year 326 BC as one of the trierarchs the Indus fleet. After Alexander's death in 323 BC he was appointed in the ensuing imperial order satrap of Babylon. Whether he had received these items previously of Alexander as the official successor of the Stamenes or got only awarded in the imperial order is unclear. After the kingdom was regent Perdiccas BC broken 321 from Babylon to Asia Minor, to Archon turned immediately against him. He supported the diversion of the funeral procession of Alexander to Egypt by the generals Arrhidaios and Ptolemy. Perdiccas therefore appointed his henchman Dokimos satrap of Babylon, who besieged the city with an army. In the subsequent defense Archon died after numerous injuries.

After his death, his parents and his brothers, was consecrated a statue group no longer preserved in the Delphic sanctuary. This award was initiated by his hometown of Pella. Archon itself seems to have been shown as the winner of the Pythia in a two-horse chariot. The two Weiheepigramme preserved appreciate him as the winner of the Isthmian and Pythian, as companions of Alexander and as satrap of Babylon.
