Arlington Court

Arlington Court was given by Colonel John Chichester commissioned and formerly a pupil of Sir John Soane designed by the architect Thomas Lee of Barnstaple. The Chichester family belonged to the minor nobility in Devonshire. John Chichester's grandson, Sir Bruce Chichester, had the building in 1865 to expand considerably, and it has since not changed. 1949, leaving Sir Bruce's daughter Rosalie Chichester the mansion together with land of 971 acres bequeathed to the National Trust.
