The Armenian Academy of Sciences (Armenian Հայաստանի Հանրապետության գիտությունների ազգային ակադեմիա ) is that the main body of the Republic of Armenia, which performs research and coordinates activities of the fields of the sciences and the social sciences. It also serves as a national language Society for the Armenian language.

It was founded in the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic ( Eastern Armenia ) as a branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences on 29 November 1943. The central branch of the Academy of Sciences located in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, although other branches in Gyumri, Sevan, Goris, Vanadzor and Ghapan exist.

The Academy of Sciences was founded by several Armenian intellectuals, including Joseph Orbeli, Stepan Malkhasyants, Avetik Issahakjan, Ivan Gevorkian and Viktor Ambartsumian Amazaspovich; Orbeli became the first president of the Academy.

From 1947 to 1993 the President of the Academy of Sciences Professor Ambartsumyan, a full member of the Armenian and the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Between 1993 and was the president of the Academy of academics Fadey Sargsian. Since 2006 it is the academics Radik Martirosyan.

The branch in Aragazotn research on astronomy at the Byurakan Observatory. A prominent member of the Academy of Western Armenian Frenchman Raymond Haroutioun Kévorkian, a researcher on the genocide of the Armenians.
