Arn - The Knight Templar (AKA: Arn - Tempelriddaren ) is a historical film from 2007, which was co-produced by Sweden, Finland, Norway, UK, Germany and Denmark.

Action

In the 12th century Arn Magnusson grows as the son of an influential Swedish family in Västergötland. Due to a vow of his parents, he is trained in a Cistercian monastery and not only learn to read and write, but also to fight. He falls in love with the beautiful Cecilia Algotsdotter who is pregnant by him. Due to personal and political intrigues both of them are separated.

Arn is sent as a crusader to the Holy Land. In Jerusalem, Arn rises to a respected man and leads, among other peace negotiations with Saladin, while Cecilia is locked in Sweden in a convent, where she waits for her lover.

Background

Arn - The Knight Templar is the first part of the film of Götaland trilogy of Swedish author January Guillou and includes the action of the first two volumes. In Sweden, where the books had already achieved cult status, the film enjoyed with local stars such as Mikael Nyqvist and Stellan Skarsgård in supporting roles wide attention.
