Arne Meurman

Erik Arne Meurman ( born April 6, 1956) is a Swedish mathematician.

Meurman won as a student in 1974 and 1975, the silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad. He received his Ph.D. in 1981 from Rutgers University with James Lepowsky Ivan ( Characters of Rank Two Hyperbolic Lie Algebras as Functions at quasi- regular cusps ). He is a professor at the University of Lund.

After John McKay, John Horton Conway and Simon Norton in the 1970s Moonlight properties of modular forms found, brought these in conjunction with the Monster group succeeded Igor Frenkel, James Lepowsky and Meurman in the 1980s to construct representations of the Monster group in Vertexoperatoralgebren, with whom Richard Borcherds then the moonlight properties proved. Vertexoperatoralgebren are also important in string theory and conformal field theory.
