Arroyo Seco AVA

Arroyo Seco AVA ( recognized since April 15, 1983) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of ​​Monterey County, southeast of Monterey Bay and is part of the larger Central Coast AVA and Monterey AVA. The wine-growing area is located between the cities of Soledad and King City and adjacent to the Arroyo Seco Creek. In the north of the appellation, the wine region of Santa Lucia Highlands AVA joins. The valley benefited from one opening to Monterey Bay. This allows the cooling mist and sea breezes of the Pacific Ocean moderating effect on the climate. In addition, it is west shaded by the Santa Lucia Mountains. This thrive here early maturing varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. The area is known for the strewn with gravel base. The inhabitants call the potato almost big stones " Greenfield potatoes ". In addition to a tempering effect the stones also provide excellent drainage of the soil.
