Monterey AVA
Monterey AVA ( recognized since 15 June 1984) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area lies in the eastern part of the administrative area of Monterey County and is part of the larger Central Coast AVA. The area extends over the valleys Carmel Valley and Salinas Valley and now comprises seven sub-zones. By opening up to the Monterey Bay benefited the area of the cooling effect of fog and sea breezes of the Pacific Ocean and the daytime temperatures rarely exceed the threshold of 24 ° C. The growth period for the vines, however, is exceptional. The sandy soil needs to be watered usually with the water of the Salinas River.
