Central Coast AVA

Central Coast AVA ( recognized since 24 October 1985) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The vineyards of the vast region extending from Santa Barbara County in the south to San Francisco Bay Area in the north. In an effort to introduce the concept of terroir in California, a wealth of sub-regions with sharp contour cultivation conditions have been established in the meantime.

Although a variety of different grape varieties were planted, dominates with almost 50 percent of the Chardonnay Blend.

Counties

Due to the American Gesetzgebeung each county ranks as a protected designation of origin in terms of viticulture. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, therefore, could not recognize the following counties in separate processes:

  • Contra Costa County
  • Monterey County
  • San Luis Obispo County
  • Santa Barbara County
  • Santa Clara County
  • Santa Cruz County
