Santa Clara Valley AVA

Santa Clara Valley AVA ( recognized since March 28, 1989) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of Santa Clara County. The region is part of the larger Central Coast AVA and San Francisco Bay AVA, but also in two subzones, Pacheco Pass AVA and San Ysidro District AVA divided.

In the early period of the history of viticulture in California, the region has been a pioneer and in particular the winemaker Paul Masson and Charles Lefranc added impetus to the success of the wine industry.

Was held back the development of the wine-growing region by the booming industry of Silicon Valley and the concomitant conversion of vineyards to urban land. Today you can find the majority of areas under vines in the west of the Santa Cruz Mountains near the town of San José.
