Cienega Valley AVA

Cienega Valley AVA ( recognized since 19 August 1982) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area lies in the western part of the administrative area of ​​San Benito County and is part of the larger Central Coast AVA and San Benito AVA. Just north of this, the Lime Kiln Valley AVA joins. The area was once the main supplier of grapes to the winery Almaden Vineyards, before it was acquired by the conglomerate Constellation Brands in 1987.

The vineyards are located about 340 m above sea level. NN. The San Andreas Fault runs right through the area. During the ground east of the fault is mainly composed of granite and limestone weathering, predominate on the western side of sandstone and granite.
