Arthur Lawson Johnston, 3rd Baron Luke

Arthur Charles St John Lawson Johnston, 3rd Baron Luke ( born January 13, 1933) is a British peer. With the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, he lost along with all other Erbpeers ( Hereditary peers) the automatic seat in the House of Lords. However, he was chosen as one of 92 selected Erbpeers that remained after the reform in the House.

The son of the 2nd Baron Luke and Barbara Lloyd - Anstruther, went to Eton College and studied at Trinity College ( Cambridge ), where he graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. In 1996 he inherited the title his father. Johnston worked from 1955-1971 for the family Bovril Ltd. and was from 1971 art dealer. Between 1962 and 1978 he was president of the National Association of warehouse keepers and 1983-1990 Commander of the St John 's Ambulance Brigade. He was in 1969 appointed High Sheriff of Bedfordshire.

He is also a member of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy, the Game Conservancy Association and the Countryside Alliance. He is a Knight of the Order of Saint John and Freeman of the City of London. In the years 2001/2002 he was Master of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, which he had already served since 1993.

He sits in the House of Lords since 1996, and after the defeat of the Conservatives in the British general election, 1997, he was the Opposition Whip in the House. Lord Luke was opposition spokesman for Wales ( 2000-06 ), Transport ( 2002-04 ), defense ( 2004-10 ) and tourism (2010).

Lord Luke married in 1959 Maria Silvia Roigt. They were divorced in 1971 and married in the same year as his second wife Sarah Louise Hearne daughter, the actor Richard Hearne. He has a son, Ian James Lawson Johnston and two daughters from his first wedding and a son from his second marriage ..
