The Samtgemeinde Artland is a community association in the northern district of Osnabrück, in Lower Saxony, based in the city Quakenbruck and an independent municipality. Your member communities are Badbergen, Menslage, Nortrup and the city Quakenbruck.

The integrated municipality is bordered to the south by the joint communities Fuerstenau and Bersenbrueck of the district of Osnabrück, in the west on the Emsland district, in the north of the district of Cloppenburg and on the east by the district of Vechta. It lies in a shallow moraine landscape with an average elevation of 25 meters above sea level. Geography

Geographical location

The integrated municipality is located in a flood plain of the North German Plain, which is traversed by the hare and forms an inland delta in Quakenbruck.

Geology

Because of the low gradient, the hare formed several branches of the river and there was the hare - inland delta, which is mainly resulting from glaziofluviatilen, so leading during the Ice Age by the action of glacial meltwater river sediments.

Drilling has shown that the soil consists primarily of clayey and sandy deposits of the Pleistocene. The top soil layer has a thickness of five to seven meters and is underlain by one to ten meter thick clay and marligen sediment layer. Sandy layers at a depth of 25 to 30 meters form a productive aquifer for groundwater extraction. The uppermost aquifer is at a depth of two to six meters.

History

The Samtgemeinde Artland was formed in the course of municipal reform in accordance with § 73 paragraph 2 of the Lower Saxony Municipal Code with effect from July 29, 1972. Economy and infrastructure
