Geography

Geographical location

Badbergen lies within the North German Plain in the center of the alluvial plain of the Artland, a sprawling flatness, which is divided only by weak Talsandplatten and humid lowlands.

The river flows Hare, from the south of the Teutoburg Forest Coming to the Cloppenburg Geest to and is forced through the grounds rise to the west.

Geology and hydrogeology

In the lowlands north of a tertiary ridge in the glacial valley of the hare, the river has an inland delta ( the so-called rabbit attack ) at Quakenbruck formed. The surface of this inland delta is almost identical with the region of Artlands and consists mainly of glaziofluviatilen, ie during the Ice Age by the action of glacial meltwater leading flow resulting sediments. Because of the low gradient, the hare formed several branches of the river and there was the hare - inland delta, is in the center of which Badbergen.

Drilling has shown that the soil consists primarily of clayey and sandy deposits of the Pleistocene. The top soil layer has a thickness of five to seven meters and is underlain by one to ten meter thick clay and marligen sediment layer. Sandy layers at a depth of 25 to 30 meters form a productive aquifer for groundwater extraction. The uppermost aquifer is at a depth of two to six meters.
